Sunday cricket has been on a downward path over the last 20 years. We have seen our numbers drop and have been no longer able to run a Sunday2's for the last decade or so. This problem is not unique to Marlow and threatens to remove Sunday Cricket completely unless we address this soon.
Why play Sundays?. Well as a club many of our Saturday players first cut their teeth in this team. It's a vital component in the progression of colts to senior cricket. Add the friendly atmosphere and the significant number of home games in our calendar and it's a shame we have had to cancel a few games or field effectively an under 21s sides on these dates.
Without wanting to take away from the required strength we need on Saturdays, we'd like more senior players to assist in the development of this side. It's fairly simple - we have 23 fixtures and would like 3 senior players to volunteer to play and help not only the captain Phil Lines in offering advice and experience, but also the colts in how to play the game effectively (and have some fun).
Quick maths says, 23 games * 3 senior players = 69 spots. We have approx 35 senior players (excluding under 21's), so if every senior player offered to play 2 games a year it would make a tremendous difference to our Sunday cricket.
